The Technological University of the Philippines (TUP)-Extension Services Office together with Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) sponsored the 3rd Biennial Convention of the Philippine Association of Extension Program Implementors (PAEPI) last November 22-24, 2012 held at the 3rd Floor of the Jose P. Laurel (JPL) Hall of Freedom of the LPU Intramuros, Manila.
Prof. Valentino J. Angeles, the Director of the TUP-UES was the convenor and Dr. Marilyn N. Ngales was the Executive Chairperson of the convention. It was a successful convention participated in by 121 extension advocates, professors and instructors coming from the different State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), faculty members from Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The PAEPI Board of Directors, Officers and members were enlightened by the talks of Senator Loren Legarda as well as Dr. Catherine Castaneda, the Director of CHED-NCR who focused her discussions about state and contemporary issues in the Philippine Higher Education in preparation for K to 12 Program. The participants were also delighted with the speakers from Agricultural Training Institute and Department of Science and Technology regarding new ideas and challenges in strengthening extension services. Likewise, the papers presented by the different State Universities and Colleges provided an opportunity for all participants to share their knowledge particularly in "Sustaining Development Extension Initiatives towards Environmental and Societal Well-being."
After the opening program, the parallel presentation of the extension outputs took place in the afternoon and lasted until morning of the 3rd day of the activity. The parallel presentations were were categories into the following: Community Development, Climate Change, Packaging of Appropriate Technology and Capacity Building of Extensionist and Partners.
There were a total of thirty five (35) papers submitted. The Capability Building of Extensionist and Partners Category got the highest number with sixteen (16) outputs followed by the Community Development Category with eleven (11) outputs. The Packaging of Appropriate Technology Category have four (4) outputs same with the Climate Change Category.
In the afternoon of November 24, 2012, the election of new officers took place where Prof. Valentino J. Angeles was chosen as the new President of PAEPI. Prof. Angeles is currently the Director of the TUP-Extension Services. The new set officers led by the new President took their oath taking on the same day.
The activity culminated with a tour around Intramuros, Manila.
